About the name, Global Hugs
Many people find the name Global Hugs intriguing so I explain to them that I wanted my business name to reflect my personality.
My Mission
To spread hugs around the world and connect with people who really need a hug at that moment in time.
This is a gesture of friendship and a way of giving unconditional love to complete strangers without judging them or expecting anything back in return. All I ask people to do is to pass the hug on to someone else who needs it.
I started hugging people in 2004 when my husband left me for another woman. Did you know that we all need physical touch? In fact, babies who don’t get love can die (it’s called the Failure to Thrive Syndrome).
Virginia Satir, Family Therapist said,
”We need 3 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.”
After attending a Tony Robbins event in London with my two teenagers in October 2004 I realised how much I’d missed being hugged. I exchanged so many hugs with strangers and it really lifted my spirits and made me feel connected. The following weekend, I went out with my girlfriends and at the end of the night, I instigated a group hug and we invited strangers into the circle. The feedback was amazing and this is something that has become a regular ritual – not just on nights out but anywhere.
It is important to note that I don’t impose hugs on people – I offer them. If I’m at a networking event and someone is uncomfortable about hugging, I smile and say “That’s OK, I do hands too” and offer my hand to shake instead.
I received an award for my hugs!

So I came up with the name Global Hugs as this reflected my personality then the next thing was to link the name to what the business offers and I came up with: Hunger for Unlimited Growth of Self because the business is about self development.
As far as I know, I’m the only Director of Hugs in the UK – maybe even the world!
